Meet the Grantmakers: Racing to Improve Public K-12 Education

The past four years have witnessed a remarkable renewal of national focus on possibilities for enhancing and reforming public education in the United States. Foundations have long played a critical role in supporting efforts to identify and support new strategies for improving student learning and performance, from investing in teacher training and school leadership development to exploring the potential of digital learning. And they have been important partners in recent national and state-level reform efforts.
In June, the Foundation Center-San Francisco hosted a panel of grantmakers to discuss where progress has been made in supporting public K-12 education over the past four years. The panel was moderated by Director of Research, Steven Lawrence and featured the following Bay Area grantmakers:
Cristina Huezo, Senior Program Officer, W. Clement and Jessie V. Stone Foundation
Rhonnel Sotelo, Chief Strategy Officer, Rogers Family Foundation
Lisa Villarreal, Program Officer, Education, The San Francisco Foundation
